In my opinion, Bill's reaction is very important for Jess. Jess's father is always working and he doesn't have time to be with him. Jess is not important for him. Bill behaves like a father, he is very good with him and he values everything he does. He is always telling good things to Jess. He pays attention to him, no like his real father. All this makes Jess happy, because nobody had ever praised him in his family the way they did in Leslie's house.
Something that is shown in this chapter is team work. Jess is used to being in a house where they don't talk too much to each other, they don't tell nice things to their family. But in Leslie's house they all help each other, they work in group, all together.
Leslie, Jess and Bill repaird the house but not as an obligation, because they wanted and they made this time funny and special.
